After earning her bachelor's degree magna cum laude from Carleton College and master's degree from the University of Michigan in physics, Walker began her career as a systems engineer at AT&T Bell Labs. During 14 years there, she performed novel work on network planning, helped develop telecommunications standards still in use today, and conducted competitive business analysis in the fast-changing telecommunications marketplace.
In 2006, after a career hiatus to focus on family, Walker returned to the business of technology by joining the fledgling Placeways as an accountant. Over the next few years, she became fully immersed in the rapidly growing company and her responsibilities grew to include all of the firm's financial operations and eventually non-financial operations as well. During these years she developed a deep understanding of how to make a business hum and the paramount importance of focusing on customers' needs. In 2011, she was named chief executive officer and took majority ownership of the firm. She is passionate about operating a healthy and effective business, delighting her customers, and making a positive difference in the world.

A nationally recognized developer and practitioner of decision-support and visualization tools, Mr. Walker brings over 25 years of experience in software and applications to consulting and development projects. In addition to a wide variety of other innovative software applications, he is best known for CommunityViz, the visual scenario planning software whose development and application he has spearheaded since 2001. Mr. Walker's extensive career at the forefront of innovative software development gives him broad knowledge of best practices and creative approaches for all aspects of a project, including project management, design, development, and deployment. His strongest specialties are the "listening" and design phases, during which the task is to deeply understand users' needs and then translate them into feasible solutions. His projects are also notable for their collaborative communication style and efficient use of time and resources. During his career he has also been a systems engineer, a research director, and a senior executive for two major U.S. technology corporations. In addition to advanced business and leadership training, he holds a B.A. in physics from Carleton College and an M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois. His passion is for technology as a bridge that connects people to information, insight, and one another.

Ms. Anderson is an expert in land-use planning analysis using CommunityViz software and 3D visualization tools. As Placeways' lead planning consultant, she provides clients with professional services including consulting, project implementation, and technical training. Her unique skills combine advanced planning analysis with a large arsenal of graphical and mapping analysis capabilities that she applies to help clients and the public understand important concepts and make informed decisions. Ms. Anderson offers a strong planning and visualization background, with numerous public and private sector consulting clients. Her technical skills and experience span a broad and valuable spectrum of GIS, CAD, and design tools. She holds degrees in both architectural engineering (bachelors, Milwaukee School of Engineering) and planning (masters in city design and social science, London School of Economics). She enjoys working with clients to apply advanced tools to challenging problems in growth planning and public engagement.
He holds a Master's Degree in Geography from Appalachian State University. His graduate research involved assessing carbon storage in terrestrial biota both for the entire state of North Carolina and a more focused study in Watauga County, in western North Carolina. Based on the results of the study, he recommended ways of increasing carbon storage as a means of mitigating rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Lead Technical Consultant
Ms. Williams offers technical support for CommunityViz and is adept in GIS based planning, processing, and implementation. Her diverse background allows her to interact well with community planners, natural resource scientists, and GIS specialists. She has experience creating custom geoprocessing scripts, tools, and tasks, working with raster and vector formats, managing large datasets, and applying appropriate, statistically valid spatial analytics. Ms. Williams holds degrees in Geographic Information Science (M.S., University of Denver) and Biology (B.S., Oral Roberts University). Her education in GIS laid a firm foundation of GIS theory, proper practice, and advanced techniques. To her technical knowledge and skill, she adds a background in natural resources and climate change impact assessments with participation in projects since 2005. Her award winning scholarship includes recognition by the GeoEye Foundation, the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and the Association for Women Geoscientists.
Mr. Varley develops technical mapping solutions for the built environment using CommunityViz and ArcGIS software. He is skilled at creating visual planning tools for communicating knowledge and solving problems in urban and regional planning. He has over 16 years of experience creating, maintaining, and manipulating geospatial data, and his planning experience extends to transportation planning, conservation planning, green infrastructure and climate change. He offers a wealth of experience developing and applying GIS technology to problem solving, as well as training and communicating difficult technical topics to a wide array of stakeholders. MORE»
Mr. Varley holds a Masters of Environmental Management from Duke University and Master of Arts in Geography and Spanish with an Emphasis in Rural, Town and Regional Planning from the University of Montana, Missoula. In graduate school he focused on the techniques of land conservation finance as well as real estate and land use law. He speaks fluent Spanish, having lived and worked in natural resource conservation and protected area management in El Salvador, Central America for five years.
